CVMLUB Lab description

The consolidated research group, called “Computer Vision and Machine Learning at the University of Barcelona” has 10 Ph.D. researchers and 18 Ph.D. and Master students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Barcelona. Its main goal is to explore novel Computer Vision and Machine Learning algorithms to address problems from the real world. CVMLUB has a special interest in designing new end-to-end learning methodologies to overcome open problems in visual recognition like visual representation and scene understanding, object recognition, semantic segmentation, egocentric vision, medical imaging and human behaviour analysis.

An important part of its research is devoted to applications of Computer Vision to health: from classical medical imaging (MRI, fMRI, US, IVUS, Wireless Endoscopy analysis) to novel application of wearable cameras for memory enhancement and smartphones for food intake monitoring. CVMLUB published more than 100 SCI-journals and 300 international conference publications and patented 25 international patents in the field of medical imaging.

CVMLUB believes that Computer Vision technology should stay very close to the society. It collaborates with and completed many technological transfers to companies like Boston Sci. (USA), GivenImaging (Israel), and hospitals like Hospital “Vall d’Hebron” (Spain), Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa (Spain), Hospital Clinic de Barcelona (Spain), Hospital del Mar (Spain), University Hospital “Germans Trias i Pujol” (Spain), etc.
